GSBG 2005 Gulf Relief Beaded Tapestry

Image hosting by Photobucket

I belong to an internet group of women who share a love for making artwork with glass seed beads. We are planning to take this talent and use it for help with hurricane gulf relief.

We are currently making a 3'x4' beaded Tapestry (quilt) that will be auctioned on eBay over the Easter holiday with the proceeds going to the Habitat for Humanity Gulf Relief. The name of our group is: the Glass Seed Beaders Group. The Tapestry is: The GSBG 2005 Gulf Relief Beaded Tapestry.

Beaded squares measure 4"X4" and are being done with looming, brick, applique and the peyote stitch's. Everyones doing something different.

It's a very exciting and awesome project. We have an internet photo album showing the beaded squares in plannings, process and completion that is generating a lot of public interest.

My name is Trish Whitecloud and I am the Tapestry project manager. The 20 of 300+ members working on this Tapestry have all types of lifestyles from homemaker to artists to therapists to librarian. We are young to old and range from west to east coast. Two women are in Canada! One gal working on this Tapestry took refuge at the Super Dome and has returned to her "wobbly" home in New Orleans. This wonderful group of women are doing an amazing job.

This is an awesome "grass roots" endeavor that began on the internet. Who knew that the internet could be call "grass roots"?

There are 48 4"x4" beaded squares sewn to a 6"x6" black felt backing. On the backside of the felt is a signature and explanation from each beadworker about their piece.

We are all Self Representing Artists on eBay and met through the eBay forum discussion threads.  Unfortunately we've never met in person!

Our goal is to raise some big bucks for Habitat for Humanity Gulf Relief.

Our Motto: To Recover, Rebuild and Remember - BeadCause We Care

I'm the lucky one who get's to actually have her "hands-on" the Tapestry before it goes to auction.   I will put the Beaded squares together and make the final product.  We have contacted the Martha Stewart show asking for her help and suggestions as to the finishing of this project... I really hope she decides to do this.  It would be a big boost to bringing this charity auction to public awareness.

I'm hoping that the Habitat for Humanity  put our logo and information  about our tapestry on their homepage.

We have emailed the Oprah and the Ellen show, hoping they'll show interest in it too.

I'm trying to locate phone contacts for Oprah, Ellen and Jay Leno and of course, Jimmy Carter.  We think it would be fantastic if one or all put bids on this Tapestry.  It's going to be a magnificent work of art.

Any help you could give in that direction would be very appreciated.  We want to generate a lot of funds for gulf relief.

To get a more clear idea as to what we beadworkers are doing, you can find links to the Tapestry by going to my ME page on eBay.  Do you ebay?  If you do you know ebay provides each seller with a mini website.  Here's the link:

You can also see more about this project on my website:  www.apachebluegirl.com  and you can see the photo album on-line at:

If anyone out there has any telephone contact numbers for these people and possibly any other people who might help bring attention to this awesome project, please contact me!

All the women working on this project are very proud of it and we hope to raise some big bucks for gulf relief and rebuilding.
